Why is strength training for everyone?
People of all ages can benefit from strength training. However, it is particularly beneficial for those in the second half of their lives. As you age, you become more susceptible to certain health issues. Harvard Medical School found that bone mass can decrease by 1% each year from the age of 40. Adults also lose as much as 3-5% of our lean muscle mass each year from around age 30. But you can prevent and reverse this. Strength training can intervene in this decline and change the trajectory of your health as you age.
Regular strength training improves body composition and bone density. It also helps to fight against, or manage diseases such as sarcopenia, osteoarthritis, arthritis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, heart disease and obesity.
By training for strength, you can improve your overall health and wellbeing. When you build strength and improve your stamina, everyday tasks will feel easier. You will have more energy left at the end of the day and will build your ability and confidence, allowing you to remain free and independent into your later years.
How we will improve your strength
The most effective way to improve your strength is by performing controlled movements which use a lot of muscles at the same time. This means you get the maximum results from each exercise. You must carefully organise each exercise to fatigue your muscles in a way that is safe and sustainable and then leave time for recovery. You need to slowly and methodically increase the weight and difficulty to suit your individual situation and goals.
We believe in not only helping you improve your strength but teaching you how to do it. Our goal is to give you the knowledge you need to train for life. This is why we work to find a training routine that fits into your life, so you can maintain it and see long-term benefits.
